6 Days In Kashmir: A Family's Story

A Family Trip, Planned Around Them

This trip started the way most of our family bookings do — a group of five wanting to see Kashmir together, with six days to work with. Rather than fitting them into a generic itinerary, we built the trip around a family group specifically: a comfortable vehicle for five, a pace that didn't rush between destinations, and hotel and houseboat stays suited to a family travelling together.

Six days is one of the most requested lengths for a Kashmir family trip, and for good reason — it's enough time to properly cover the core circuit of Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg without needing to rush from one place to the next, which is exactly the shape this trip took.

Srinagar: Where It Began

The trip started in Srinagar, with time along Dal Lake and the kind of slower-paced sightseeing that works well for a family group easing into the trip. Srinagar's houseboats, gardens and local markets gave the family their first taste of Kashmir before heading further into the valley.

Gulmarg's Meadows

From Srinagar, the family travelled to Gulmarg, one of the most photographed stops on any Kashmir itinerary. Whatever the season, Gulmarg's meadows and mountain views tend to be a highlight for families specifically — there's space to walk, take photos together, and simply take in the scenery at whatever pace suits the group.

Pahalgam's Valleys

Pahalgam followed, with its pine forests and the Lidder River running through the valley. This is often where families find their own rhythm on a Kashmir trip — a slower day, a walk along the river, and the kind of quiet scenery that doesn't need much of an itinerary to enjoy.

Sonamarg's Landscapes

The trip also covered Sonamarg, with its glacial landscapes and noticeably cooler air given the altitude. For a family covering the full circuit in six days, Sonamarg is usually the furthest point of the trip before heading back toward Srinagar for departure.
